How to Care for your Synthetic Wig or Hairpiece - Washing

Today's tip is about washing your synthetic wig or hairpiece. Your wig is an investment. Proper care will extend the life of your investment.

Washing
Before washing, brush your wig thoroughly to loosen dirt and comb out any tangles. Place a few drops of wig shampoo into a basin and fill with lukewarm water. Swish wash the wig gently, making sure the wig gets completely soaked with the shampoo mixture. Do not rub the wig.

Gently rinse the wig in cool water to completely remove shampoo. Apply a wig conditioner product at this point, if needed. Then rinse completely with clean lukewarm water.

Never wash a wig in hot water. Very hot water will cause synthetic wigs to loose their style, due to the high heat reacting with the synthetic fiber.

Drying
Wrap your wig and blot in a clean towel to remove excess water if necessary. Finally, drape your wig over a wire stand or hook and allow the wig to completely drip dry. Do not brush or comb the wig while wet.

Style
After the wig has completely dried, shake the wig and brush back into the desired style. Synthetic wigs will bounce back into their original shape, due to their preset curl.
